Walter Holmes
Artistic Statement
Walter has been painting for over 50 years. He originally studied Earth Sciences at Durham University and Imperial College, London, and then decided art was his main passion and studied art at Hammersmith and Chelsea Schools of Art followed by Newcastle University.
Walter was born in Wallsend and has an affinity with the history of the Tyne and the Northeast. He enjoys light, colour and reflections, managing to catch the atmosphere and feelings of a place with an impressionistic style combined with draughtsmanship. He is a skilled painter and uses a wide range of media.
His work has influenced may other northeast artists and he a exhibited throughout the UK. His work is in private collections around the world. He tends to sell his work more as originals rather than prints.
Walter continues to paint even though he is in his late 80's.
