Artistic Statement

I am currently studying a Master's degree in Fine Art at Sunderland University part time due to child care and I work full time. I have always been interested in the arts and whilst living in rural Weardale when I was younger, participated in multiple Stanhope Agricultural Shows and won as well as placed numerous times over the years in various painting categories. I started my MA in Fine Art after I was furloughed for childcare reasons during the pandemic.
I paint mostly in acrylics and like to work on more than one painting at a time so that I can maintain a fresh perspective. Whilst I do try and work from direct observation and capture the essence of my subject, I tend to work from photographs that I have taken exploring and discovering the North East. Using these photographic references, notes and plein air impressions, I try to inject a sense of vibrancy and movement into my work.
