Artistic Statement
Emine at Silverkupe Jewellery
Since I was a little girl, I always liked jewellery. It is part of the rich Turkish culture I come from, and I always particularly liked silver jewellery and I still go to the same jeweller’s shop in Istanbul whenever I am there. Every new piece I create is an experiment as my style evolves. All the jewellery is hand-made by me. Although similar designs can be done, they are unique due to the hand-making process and this makes every item unique. I am taking my inspiration from architecture and looking into minimalist designs. However I also like to design everyday jewellery that makes owners happy.
Emine uses silver, copper and concrete to create her jewellery in her studio in Tyneside. She uses precious metal clay and is learning traditional silversmithing techniques including diverse precious metal clay techniques such as Mokume Gane. Each new piece she creates is an experiment.
